Skateboarding provided a lifelong quest for freedom of expression through all forms of mediums for Michael Akira West. Inspired by punk, rap and jazz music as well as his collection of sneakers and vintage clothing, Mike got to work with what started as a school project but became an obsession. 686 formed in 1992, and the label continues to provide innovative outerwear and technical apparel, inspired by the same Los Angeles street culture and mountain lifestyle it was founded upon.
