Product details
Originally, 'friulane' or 'papusse' were celebratory shoes made for humble folk in the Italian region of Friuli. They were hand-sewn by housewives from discarded materials, such as scraps of fabric and bicycle tyres. From Friuli, these shoes then found their way to Venice, where they were first worn by gondoliers and then by aristocrats. Popular thanks to the comfort and refinement they provide, today friulane shoes are worn as slippers at home and outdoors in spring and summer. Scarosso's friulane shoes—'designer' for him and 'Valentina' for her—are made by hand in Friuli, limiting the number of pairs produced and making each shoe unique. With its velvety surface, the shoe box provides an exquisite touch.
