Keds may look like a contemporary footwear label but their history is actually quite long, dating back to 1916. They produced the first sneakers ever made! Before the founders settled on the name 'Keds' they were keen to call their footwear empire 'Peds', from the Latin for 'foot', but since the name was already trademarked, Keds was born. The term 'sneaker' was then coined for Keds as their rubber soles make them so quiet that the wearer could sneak around without making too much sound.
